FAQs:

What does eco-friendly mean?

Eco-Friendly fashion refers to goods and services considered to inflict minimal or no harm to the environment. There is really no such thing as a 100% eco-friendly piece of clothing as all clothing takes water to grow, however organic materials and eco fabrics, that use small amounts of precious water to grow, such as Bamboo, minimize the damage & maximize the resources required.

We believe in zero waste, closed-loop systems, meaning that we generate little to no waste.

What does Life-Cycle mean?

The lifecycle of the garment is the full journey along the supply chain from growing the plant ,the extraction of the raw fiber, to the production , manufacturing, distribution, use phase and land fill.

We aim to encourage all consumers to be responsible for the use and reuse of clothes by down cycling or up cycling For example unwanted clothes can be shared or donated to charities and be safely recycled over and over again. At Kokoro we believe in Quality over quantity will not only help our environment but will encourage consumers to be more mindful of the purchase practice which can only bring about positive changes to society, local business and the planet. It’s a win-win for everyone through collaboration.

What is ethical fashion?

Ethical fashion refers to the more social impact (what is right and wrong) throughout the creation’s process. Some examples include:

  • Respectful treatment of the makers of the fabric or garment

  • Fair pay, safe working conditions, a right to choose working hours for the makers of the fabric or garment

  • A ban on child labour

  • The ethics behind the origin of a product or fibre. eg. leather, ivory, diamonds etc.

  • Clothing that has a fair trade registration (they might show this on their swing tag) which means the people who sewed it have been paid fairly.

Our logo features the red string of fate: We believe strongly in supporting ethical business practices. Our company philosophy of ‘Good words, Good deeds Good thoughts’ carries through our every process.

What is sustainable fashion?

Sustainable fashion is described as fashion that focuses on society, ecological stability and economic viability. There are many different approaches to producing and design practices. Some examples might be: minimizing the consumption of resources, choosing low-impact processes and resources, improving production techniques, using organic or sustainable fabrics, improving distribution systems, reducing the impacts created during use, improving the garment’s lifetime or improving the use of end-of-life systems such as recycling to make new clothes. At Kokoro we aim to manage responsibly, with a holistic approach, all of these three components to sustainability.

What does organic fabric mean?

Organic means that the fabrics & materials used to create the garment were all raised or grown in accordance with organic agricultural standards. This means that no pesticides or harmful chemicals are used in the process of growing the Bamboo. Bamboo is one of the few plats that has a natural resistance to bacteria so does not ned pesticides or chemicals for protection and growth. Not only is this better for the wearer’s health and skin, it is also beneficial to the land and farmer, who will not have to breathe any harmful chemicals or pesticides while growing the materials. Kokoro sources from reputable fabric suppliers and uses GOTS certified Organic fabrics.

What is Positive Fashion?

Positive Fashion is fashion that has been created with little to no negative impact on the environment, the producers or the wearers. It is exactly as it says: fashion that you can feel good about. We design for need and we design with empathy in mind, producing stunning designs that suit your lifestyle.

What is Slow Fashion?

Slow fashion is a movement for those designing, creating and buying fashion that is produced without an expiry date. It means pieces are produced slower, meaning fair wages, better working conditions, lower carbon footprints and ultimately little to zero waste. Fast fashion means rushed fashion, trendy designs and inevitably, waste of environmental resources, quality of life for the makers and shorter life cycle of clothing.
